On September 29th 2023 the new Domestic Animals Law comes into force, requiring all dog owners to secure public liability insurance for their furry friends; cats will have to be sterilised and there will be a ban on keeping pets permanently on balconies or terraces. Here in Spain, these potentially dangerous breeds are the following:
- Pit Bull Terrier
- Rottweiler
- Dogo Argentino
- Staffordshire Bull Terrier
- American Staffordshire Terrier
- Fila Brasileño
- Tosa Inu
- Akira Inu
- Presa Canario
- Bullmastiff
- Doberman
Mixed Breed Dogs
In any case, mixed-breed dogs that come from the crossing of these breeds or that meet characteristics such as a markedly aggressive character or that have a chest circumference between 60 and 80 cm, height at the withers between 50 and 70 cm, weight greater than 20 kg, etc, can also be considered as potentially dangerous.
