Sep 2011 - CBBA Paella Competition

The Costa Blanca Business Association held a fantastic social at Jeff and Karens lovely villa - http://www.casaenelcampo.biz/ on Sunday the 2nd October 20011.

One of the highlights of the day was the Paella Competition, with 5 teams competing. The standard was extremely high and the eventual winner was Mike Smeed of 100% Plumbing (pictured right)

It was a great opportunity for members, wifes and children to mix in a very sociable environment.

Thanks to Tony for the Bouncy Castle, Jesus for organising the day, Steve for cooking 2 Paellas (one vegitarian), all the team captains, Franco for the Wine and all the members and families who wholeheartedly took part. Of course special thanks to Jeff and Karen for sharing their villa with us.
 
 

Sep 2011 - CBBA MABS Presentation

On 27th September , MABS held a coffee morning at their MABS Sol Park centre. The Centre opened in June 2009 to provide cancer patients, their families, carers and friends with emotional and practical support such as confidential counselling by qualified counsellors, and complementary treatments and therapies.

At the coffee morning, the Costa Blanca Business Association presented  a lymph control laser machine  to MABS President, Mrs Jacquelyne  Phillips MBE .

CBBA´s President, Sr  Jesus Francisco Negrillo   said ‘ We are delighted that our fundraising so far has been able to pay for  this   lymph control laser machine, and we hope that it will bring many benefits to the patients helped by MABS .
So far this year the CBBA  members have taken part in the Race for Life in April,  and have held a rastro stall in Pedregeur in May, raising a total of over €2500 to buy this much needed equipment.  On behalf of the Costa Blanca Business Association , and in memory of Frances Sawyer, we are pleased to present this equipment to MABS.’

Sep 2011 - CBBA Halloween Ball
(All proceeds to MABS Cancer Support Group)

The Costa Blanca Business Association ( WWW.CBBA.ES) is a group of established businesses on the Northern Costa Blanca . The members represent a variety of services and trades and all work hard to ensure they offer excellent products, customer service and value for money.
 
As well as providing reliable services and promoting each other´s businesses, they also hold events throughout the year to raise money for local charities.

This year, one of the sponsored  charities  is MABS Cancer Support Group  (www.mabscancersupport.org), chosen  in memory of Frances Sawyer, who was a founder member of MABS and also a member of the CBBA.

So far this year the CBBA  members have taken part in the Race for Life in April,  and have held a rastro stall in Pedregeur in May, raising over €2500 to buy much needed equipment  for MABS Sol Park Centre located at Los Leones, Sol Park, Moraira.  The Centre opened June 2009 to provide cancer patients, their families, carers and friends with emotional and practical support such as confidential counselling by qualified counsellors, and complementary treatments and therapies.

CBBA’s next fundraising event is a Halloween Ball on Friday 28 October 2011, to be held at the Oliva Nova Golf and Beach Resort just outside Oliva , north of Denia .

Tickets are only €30 and include a 3 course dinner with wine, and excellent entertainment by the Joanna James Jazz Quartet, the Backbeat4 Beatles Tribute Band, and a Spectrum FM DJ. 

A children´s room with entertainer is also provided at €11 per child. And the hotel is offering very good overnight rates to support this event , so you can make a real night of it!

It promises to be a lively and fun event , something to look forward to at the end of summer.

May 2011 - CBBA MABS RASTRO
On Sunday 8 May we ran a fund raising stall at the Pedreguer Rastro , and we wish to thank everyone who donated items for sale, and of course those who came along and bought from us ! We raised the grand total of €383.10 , which will go towards a substantial piece of equipment for use by MABS.

A Special thanks to:-

• Isabel and Fiona for organising and running the stall
• Graham for taking over while they had a coffee and comfort break.
• Geoff for bringing chairs and a sun umbrella (thankfully the buyer didn´t collect them until just before we packed up!).
• Mick for the tables, trestles and moral support on the day.
• Dave for producing the great CBBA banner

Apr 2011 - CBBA MABS Race For Life
For our first 2011 fund raising event , a team of 15 members and associates took part in the MABS Race for Life, a 5 km fun run held in Moraira on 3 April. Our small team raised an astonishing €2,015.00 towards MABS funds. The team raced in memory of Frances Sawyer, who was a founder member of MABS and also a member of the CBBA.

The CBBA aim to collect enough money through various events this year to buy a substantial piece of equipment for use by MABS. Other events to note are :

• A stall at Pedreguer rastro on Sunday 8 May. We already have a wide variety of donated items , please come along and buy something. All monies raised go to charity.
• A Halloween Ball on Friday 28 October, to be held at the Oliva Nova Beach Resort. Further information will be published on CBBA and MABS websites, and in the local press.

A huge thanks to Fiona Hulme of Cobros Directos and Tony Bowers of Toldos Alchemy for organising this event and to all those who took part - well done!!
 

Feb 2011 - CBBA Education Evening - Los Arcos
24 people attended the first CBBA Education Evening of 2011. The theme of the evening was "Presentaions" and covered General Presentations (every time you present your company) , 8 minute presentations and 30 second presentations. The presenters were Tim Watmuf, Alan Goswell and Steve Taylor and the feedback from the members who attended was fantastic. There was plenty of good information, techniques and tips and the whole evening was topped off by food and drinks were members got the chance to socialize.

Many thanks to Tim, Alan and Steve for their valued input. Thanks also goes to Los Arcos for their hospitality.

The CBBA will be holdin their AGM on Wednesday 26 January 2011 at Los Arcos Restaurant commencing at 08:00.

Oct 2010 - CBBA Education Evening - Los Arcos
25 members were treated to an evening of good food, wine and a chance to learn! The theme of the evening was Marketing and in particular the 4 P's of Marketing. John Harris (in his own infamous style!) did a presentation on Product, Brian Fielder spoke about Price, leaving Alan Goswell to guide us through the whys and wherefores of Place and Promotion.

All presentations were of a high standard and many interesting points were raised, which, we are sure will help some members in their business. The evening provided a great opportunity for members to "network" outside the normal meeting format. We have a wealth of talent and experience amongst our members and more nights like this one will be planned in the future.

Oct 2010 - CBBA Birthday
The CBBA was four years old on 16 th October and 25 members marked the birthday with an educational evening at Los Arcos Restaurant in Pedregeur, which was an opportunity to not only to gain knowledge but also to get together socially.

The Costa Blanca Business Association has come a long way during the last four years, which have been difficult trading conditions for many businesses, but the CBBA has gone from strength to strength. Many of the original founding members are still within the association and reaping the benefits of being part of a strong networking and referral group. It is also the only legally registered networking group in this area, emphasising its commitment to professionalism and legality.

Over the last four years we have welcomed 148 visitors to our meetings, which have produced 50 members. Obviously we have lost some members through natural wastage but our current membership stands at 34. We have also passed 3420 referrals during this time and our monthly totals have increased from 25 to 50, which goes to prove more members bring more referrals. It also proves that word of mouth is the most cost effective form of marketing. Our goal now is to increase the membership still further and to continue to offer quality products and services to the clientele living on the Costa Blanca and beyond so that the CBBA becomes known as the organisation to call to get that job done professionally, courteously and cost effectively.

So many happy returns to the CBBA and its members and here´s looking forward to the next four years.
 

June 2010 - CBBA Charity Golf Day - Great Success!
The competition, sponsored by the Costa Blanca Business Association (CBBA) in collaboration with Campbell Lamont Golf, was held at Oliva Nova golf course, with the aim of raising money for Help of Denia. Members of the CBBA and the other local businesses had donated prizes for a raffle and an auction, which raised €1,760 to enable Help to continue their work of giving assistance to the expatriate community in times of need.

June 2010 - CBBA Charity Golf Day
THE COSTA Blanca Business Association, in association with Campbell Lamont Golf, is sponsoring a charity golf competition on Sunday 27th June at Oliva Nova Golf Course to raise money for HELP of Denia. HELP is a volunteer group providing support in emergencies with illness, accidents etc, when medical services are involved. Amongst other things, they provide hospital visiting teams, transport for hospital appointments, an interpreting service at Denia hospital and provide medical equipment on loan.

Oct 2009 - Marc White on BBC Radio 4
on BBC Radio 4 On Tuesday 2nd November at 11am GMT, CBBA member and Spanish Lawyer Marc White can be heard taking part in a BBC Radio 4 half hour documentary talking about the effects of the recession upon the expat community in Spain. The programme visits Spain’s Mediterranean resorts to hear a sober balanced assessment as to how members of the country’s one million strong British ex-patriot community are weathering the recession.

Oct 2009 - Femal Focus Launch Online Magazine
October 2009 sees Female Focus enter its 17th birthday. It is by far the most successful magazine serving the Costa Blanca community with 42,000 copies distributed every month. By remaining relevant to life on the Costa Blanca, and retaining its overall sense of 'community', it has gone from strength to strength.

In keeping with technology, we are proud to now make Female Focus available as an online magazine. On-line readers can now flip pages on-screen just like reading a regular magazine. After the first game Kevin (Moneycorp) clearly had his eye in with a score of 120, the only bowler top score over 100 in the first round. Unfortunately Kevin had to retire with a bad back (so he says). A buffet break followed and there must have been something in the drink as things livened up and became interesting.

The second round saw a close contest with Roddy (RTN) scoring 136 closely followed by Tony (Toldos Alchemy) on 134, other centurions were Claire (Roddy’s wife) Steve (Locksmith) and Jamie (Prosat). There was a minor competition inspired by Adam (Electrician) to see who could bowl the fastest (scoring bowl). Obviously with all the lifting involved with Satellite dishes Jamie’s shoulder muscles were the winners as he threw down one bowl achieving over 33 km per hour. Not to be out done Adam did mange one at 35 km per hour but unfortunately we think the bowl ended up three lanes away and the last we saw of Adam he was in heated discussions with a group of Spanish youngsters!

It was great to get people together (young and old!) and many thanks to Ondara Bowling Centre for their organisation especially on such a busy night caused by the rain. Many thanks to Isabel (White & Baos) for organising the event.
